PM Modi Attends 17th BRICS Summit in Brazil

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took part in the 17th BRICS Summit held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on 6–7 July 2025. Leaders from BRICS countries met to talk about globalreforms, peace and security, multilateral cooperation, and the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The summit was important as it focused on giving a stronger voice to the Global South and shaping a more balanced world order.

Strengthening Multilateralism and Promoting AI
In the second session on “Multilateral, Economic-Financial Affairs and AI”, the Prime Ministersaid BRICS mustremain united to deal with global changes and uncertainties. He gave fourideas to make BRICS stronger.
1. The BRICS New Development Bank should fund projects based on countries’ real needs and focus on long-term success.
2. BRICS should set up a Science and Research Repository to support Global South countries.
3. The group should secure critical mineral supply chains to reduce risks.
4. BRICS must work for Responsible AI, balancing innovation and AI governance.

India Ranked Among World's Most Equal Countries by World Bank

India has been named the fourth most equal country in the world by the World Bank, based on the Gini Index for 2025. With a score of 25.5, India has achieved a strong level of income equality, ahead of many developed nations. This is a big step for a large and diverse country, and shows how government policies and poverty reduction efforts are creating real change.

The Gini Index measures how fairly income is shared in a country. A score of 0 means perfect equality, while 100 means complete inequality. India’s score of 25.5 makes it one of the most equal countries in the world, just behind Slovak Republic (24.1), Slovenia (24.3), and Belarus (24.4). India’s ranking is better than China (35.7), the United States (41.8), and all G7 andG20 nations. Back in 2011, India’s Gini score was 28.8, so this improvement over a decade shows steady progress. The World Bank released this data in its July 2025 report, covering 167 countries.

India’s Maratha Forts Added to UNESCO World Heritage List

Maratha Military Landscapes of India were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List during the 47th session of the World Heritage Committee in Paris. This important recognition covers 12 historic forts built by the Maratha rulers between the 17th and 19th centuries. The listing highlights their unique military design and the rich history of India’s fort architecture.
